Black Lives Matter

This past Saturday, 12-13-14, was a monumental moment in my life and the lives of thousands of other people who gathered together in solidarity for the lives of black men.  This weekend I was caught, purposely, in an event that will be remembered as history. Although, the cause brings sadness to my soul, I will do whatever my soul calls me to do when it comes to supporting justice and humanity.  This past Saturday, I marched. I marched with a purpose in mind and in my heart. It filled my spirits with so much joy to see so many people of every race, religion, and creed. I was even more moved by the numbers of young people who counted it not robbery to stand in support of any and every black man and woman who has lost their life to the hand or gun of a police officer. I commend each person who participated in peaceful protest, even if that protest took place in the privacy of their own bedrooms, it doesn't go unaccounted for.

This march is something I will be able to share with my child. There is great educational value in the events that led up to this march this past weekend. All children deserve to be taught about what is going on in the world around them, because ultimately, it will affect them one day. I am proud to stand for justice. I am charged to speak up for what I believe in. I don't owe an explanation for my right to stand in agreement with the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Amadou Diallo, Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, John Crawford, Jr., and the many other mothers who stood in pain on that stage in front of the Capitol building. I simply say, I too, have a soul, a heart that has been broken by a system that has once again failed a people. I am American. Black, but born in America. I am a mother. I am human. I have every right to stand for what is right. Justice is just that, it is righteousness.
